Stellenbeschreibung
Job Posting – Communications Officer, British Embassy Berlin (DEU26.065), Berlin
The British Government is an inclusive and diversity-friendly employer. We value difference, promote equality and challenge discrimination, enhancing our organisational capability. We welcome and encourage applications from people of all backgrounds. We do not discriminate on the basis of disability, race, colour, ethnicity, gender identity, religion, sexual orientation, age, veteran status or other category protected by law. We promote family-friendly flexible working opportunities, where operational and security needs allow. The FCDO operates an agile workforce and to facilitate this, you may be required to undertake other duties from time to time, as we may reasonably require.
Do you love turning complex ideas into compelling stories, shaping narratives that influence real‑world conversations, and creating content that captures attention across digital and physical spaces? Then this role might be the perfect fit for you!
Who are we?
The British Embassy in Berlin is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas, and is now looking for a Communications Officer.
This role in the British Embassys Public Diplomacy and Internal Politics team sits at the heart of the UKs diplomatic network in Germany and is an opportunity to contribute significantly across a wide variety of high-profile issues, from UK ministerial visits to the Munich Security Conference to Embassy participation in the Christopher Street Day Parade.
We aim to be a diverse and inclusive employer, welcoming to people of all backgrounds. The senior leadership is committed to ensuring that we are a supportive and fair place to work. The Germany Network values are kindness, inclusivity, honesty, professionalism and responsibility. These values guide how we work on a daily basis, and all staff must adhere to them.
Main purpose of job:
You will help strengthen the UKs presence and voice in Germany through creative, impactful communications and public diplomacy. The jobholder will plan, design and deliver engaging content for the British Embassy and Consulates, helping shape how key UK priorities — from ministerial visits to support for Ukraine and UK cultural strengths — are understood by German audiences. Working across the Embassys social media channels and traditional media engagement, the role turns complex policy issues into compelling stories that resonate online and in person.
Beyond communications, the role supports wider public diplomacy efforts that deepen UK–Germany relationships. This includes helping design campaigns, supporting cultural and educational initiatives, engaging stakeholders, and contributing to events such as film screenings, roundtables and high-profile visits. The jobholder will work collaboratively with colleagues across the Embassy to develop outreach that builds networks, showcases UK expertise and values, and enhances the UKs reputation within German society.
As part of an experienced and supportive team, the role offers the opportunity to contribute to high-impact diplomatic work while developing strong professional skills in a dynamic international environment.
Roles and responsibilities:
Following last years signing of the Kensington Treaty, we want German audiences to see the benefits of a close Freundship with the UK, be it in defending our shared values globally, innovating to tackle climate change, or simply enjoying Britains distinctive national cultures. We also need to use comms to share important information with British nationals and businesses, including around travel to and from Germany and major sporting events or the Oktoberfest.
